I went to see the Cirque du Soleil show Alegria last night. This is a little taste:

It was so amazing that I have a renewed appreciation for what the human body can do. It kind of makes me want to do some yoga, and at least get to the point that I can reach past my knees…

It was also a great excuse to dress up, but sadly, I didn’t get any pictures, except for this bad one of a delicious meal at a Mediterranean restaurant from before the show:

Fried jibneh (cheese), falafel, and spinach pies

You can listen to the soundtrack here, which is awesome. The theme song reminds me a little of Lady Gaga, particularly the chorus of Alejandro. But this just might be my favorite. I don’t know. I can’t decide.

My Bed Bug

I brought my grandmother’s wrought iron headboard back from Orange Park to see if I liked it in my room, and I love it! I also put up the king and queen hippo art prints I bought on Etsy a while back.

Office/ “Guest Room”

July 27, 2009

It’s a guest room because it has a daybed. That’s about it. I’ll get some kind of art on that wall eventually.

Feelin’ Good

April 30, 2009

Me on a couple of Isabelle’s business cards :)

Pictures from her blog.

I finally signed up for a photography class, which will run for about six weeks beginning in June. I am so excited that I’m actually following through with a hobby I’ve wanted to learn more about for a couple of years now, even in the midst of grad school. It’s kind of empowering to take so much on. I really admire well-rounded people who are “jacks of all trades,” and I guess that’s a goal I have for myself. I always want to be learning throughout my life. I understand the need–and enjoy–having certain, long-term, focused career goals, but I plan on pursuing as many other creative outlets as possible; photography, foreign languages, cooking, yoga, writing, and other artistic endeavors.

All I have left for the semester is grading. Today I’m going to do a little cleaning around the apartment and then get to work, because tomorrow I’m going to South Florida for a long weekend! I’m really looking forward to having a relaxing few days in Ft. Lauderdale, especially with no homework to stress me out. I’ll probably even go to the beach. I love waking up on mornings when I’m about to take a fun trip; packing up the car, loading music on the IPODs, stocking up on snacks at a gas station, and hitting the road. Very few things make me happier, other than maybe heading off to the airport!

Stuck, Part II

April 24, 2009

I love cigar boxes and have been wanting to do something creative with them, but I don’t know what. I gave it a try but got stuck. I’m really no good with arts and crafts; it could have something to do with my total lack of patience.

Only about a week left until the semester is over, and if I can get my biggest paper done by Monday, things should be pretty smooth sailing. It’s the work I have to do this weekend that’s scary. Tonight, though, I’m relaxing. My brain doesn’t work on Fridays.

In more important news, which probably is no longer news since I announced it on Facebook days ago, I’m officially transferring to the University of Florida in the fall. Patrick will be doing his PhD there and we were both offered assistantships. I will miss the Women’s Studies Department at USF, but other than that, I hadn’t been in Tampa for long, and the change is for the best. At this point, I’m mostly thinking: Where will we live? I want to rent a house, even a tiny house, so badly, if only so I don’t have to walk Herman around an apartment complex at 4am when he needs to go out. It’s so creepy. But, ok, really I just want a little house because little houses are cute. Like this one, which is available in July:

I “jokingly” showed it to Patrick thinking he’d be completely opposed to the pink, but he didn’t respond too badly…

As a side note, it’s becoming harder and harder to keep my opinions on various matters to myself. I’m also a little sick of writing about home decor, maybe I’ll discuss something more substantial soon. Who knows? My blogging whims are unpredictable. Perhaps I’ll make make a list of things I’d like to do this summer. I’ve been writing summer lists since childhood–they’re better than New Years’ Resolutions.
